The new web-based modernisation scheme had to be in place across the whole of the UK by September 1, as the contract for the old dial-up system was about to expire. The new software was initially rolled out to the south east of England on Saturday, August 15. However, a tweak and a reboot on Sunday 16 by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and Kainos – the contracted software company – resulted in a few glitches come Monday morning. We will be departing from Calais on October 11 and heading towards the Nürburgring on Day One. The following morning we set off for Stuttgart, visiting the Liqui Moly oil refinery at Saarlouis for a tour of its business en route. Once we reach our destination, we’ll also visit the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche Museums.
