New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|1826Gather the TROOPS!Last week was Meghan, duch*ess of Sussex’s first official appearance on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, waving to crowds gathered for the annual Trooping the Colour. But in just a few months, it’ll be Kiwis on the receiving end of her smile when she makes her first official trip to New Zealand. Meghan (36) and her husband Prince Harry (33) are heading to Australia for the Invictus Games from October 20 to 27, and now Kensington Palace has confirmed they’ll visit our shores while they’re down this way. The newlyweds will be adding trips to Fiji and Tonga, as well as New Zealand to coincide with their attendance at the Games, which were founded by Harry and are this year being held in Sydney. Dame Kiri (74), who was born in Gisborne but now resides in the UK, has long been a favourite of the royals, performing regularly for the Queen after first wowing the operatic world with her soprano voice in Covent Garden. New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|1826DIVORCE? VICTORIA’S LAUGHING ON THE INSIDE“Honey, are you divorcing me?” Apparently adopting the old adage of, ‘If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry’, it was an amused and slightly flummoxed Victoria Beckham that called her husband last week to ask if he was leaving her following reports the pair’s 19-year marriage was over. Ringing David (43), who was away in the US, Victoria (44) jokingly asked if she was about to be left, after thousands of social media users across the world insisted the couple were splitting up, following incongruous allegations a divorce was imminent. The rumours started following the couple’s appearance at the Duke and duch*ess of Sussex’s wedding, wher reports soon following that she was “furious” at David and that they’d been fighting for weeks before. He was a cultural commentator, controversialist, novelist, publisher, workaholic, former alcoholic and drug addict, very funny – and frequently foul-mouthed. He shot to fame in 2000, aged 44, after 20 years cheffing in New York restaurants, with his first book Kitchen Confidential. New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|1826But wait, there’s more! SUZANNE’S next chapterAs the Weekly pokes around Suzanne Paul’s roomy, light-filled new home on Auckland’s North Shore, we’re flooded with nostalgia. Her dressing room is decorated with the infomercial queen’s old Weekly covers, while the mirrorball trophy she won on Dancing with the Stars in 2007 takes pride of place in the kitchen. But it’s a loose piece of paper beneath it that’s the reason we’re here to chat – a certificate declaring that Suzanne Paul has officially changed her name to... Suzanne Paul. You see, until now, that’s never been her name. The beloved star was born Susan Barnes in Wolverhampton back in 1956 and “Suzanne Paul” was simply a name invented to promote her Natural Glow make-up in the ‘90s.The public and media latched on to it, but it’s only now, 26 years…6 min

New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|1826RALLY AROUND Swathe someone with love!Janey Carr has lived all over the world, but in every country she’s been in, one thing has remained a constant – everybody needs help and more often than not, people are too afraid to ask for it. It’s something she’s seen in her own life through her parents. When she was 18, Janey’s mother Roz (69) was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and given two months to live. Luckily, she responded to treatment but what followed for her family was a 30-year battle. “She’s had cancer on and off, which has been quite difficult, especially for my stepfather Stuart,” Janey (48) explains from her home in West Auckland. “All the treatment, it just takes over your life. New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|1826CHARM offensiveWhen we moved to Wellington a few years ago, I thought we’d stumbled into the most polite place in the country, though, after Auckland, many parts of the country might seem rather polite. Auckland is famous for many things, but not politeness. Aucklanders are just too busy for that sort of thing.Wellington people, on the other hand, are unfailingly nice to almost everybody, which doesn’t quite make up for the often-challenging weather, but it certainly helps. All the niceness did take a bit of getting used to, though. When people in the capital ask you how you are, for instance, they seem to really want to know. In a corner of the salon, a young woman has set up shop, creating bespoke lipsticks. It’s a very cool concept. She’d seen the idea in New York and brought it back to Christchurch, and was doing a roaring trade. While the original Ocean’s films starred all men, this female-driven crime story is still packed with action and surprising twists. All in all, it’s well worth a watch and definitely a fun choice for your next girls’ night out.…1 min
New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|1826A tale of two HOUSESI confess to knowing absolutely nothing about the real life events this novel is based on. In fact, I turned to Google several times to find out more about the people described. At times, these large gaps in my knowledge made things confusing, but still, I found White Houses a colourful and intriguing story with lots of very lovely writing. It is centred on the love affair between First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and journalist Lorena Hickok – known as Hick. How intimate this relationship actually was remains uncertain. But in Amy Bloom’s fictional version of the story, theirs is a passionate and deeply affectionate relationship. When we first meet Hick, it is 1945. President Franklin D. Roosevelt has died and she has stayed away from the funeral. Instead, she is…2 min

Aucklanders are just too busy for that sort of thing. Wellington people, on the other hand, are unfailingly nice to almost everybody, which doesn’t quite make up for the often-challenging weather, but it certainly helps. All the niceness did take a bit of getting used to, though. When people in the capital ask you how you are, for instance, they seem to really want to know. In Auckland, they just keep walking. So, I was a bit unsettled when I read in the local paper the other day…3 min
New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|1826Star STYLETINA FEY Sizzling in sequins, the actress and writer ruffled feathers with this daring yet dazzling gown. The V-neck was a flattering choice for Tina but it was the fun, contrasting fabric and flirty train that made this outfit red-carpet ready. 9/10 JANE SEYMOUR She’s been in the business since her early twenties, but screen queen Jane showed us that age is just a number! She looked red hot in this chic and simple crimson floor-length frock. 8/10 CLAIRE DANES The Homeland actress looked pretty and purr-fect in this wild leopard-print gown. The fun and layered frills enhanced her blossoming baby bump and the soon-to-be mother of two was positively glowing. 8/10 LAURA DERN Showing her dark side on the red carpet, the Big Little Lies star wore a sleek…2 min
